‘The next frontier’: Hawaii’s health care, industrial fields get high-tech upgrade

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – New tech is almost on the market in Hawaii that could have dramatic impacts for employees who complete manual labor tasks across different industries.
Servco Pacific is partnering with German Bionic to bring the Apogee Exoskeleton to the islands.
”We’re excited to partner with German Bionic to bring their exoskeletons to team members and businesses that need it,” said Thor Toma, SVP of Projects and New Initiatives at Servco Pacific Inc.“This collaboration is more than just a product; it embraces cutting-edge human augmentation technology to enhance the safety and well-being of manual workers, while boosting efficiency and productivity.
“It is the next frontier for human-centric mobility technologies.”
The exoskeleton itself weighs a little more than 15 pounds and has functions that support the wearer when it comes to lifting, walking and even setting down heavy objects.
”This is a brand new technology — it’s that hybrid automation in between fully autonomous to manual. I think this is going to keep many of our workforce on their feet and healthier,” said Carson Chun, Commercial and Fleet Manager for Servco Forklift and Industrial Equipment.
Chun says the exoskeletons could be a game changer for industrial workers as well as caregivers who are tasked with moving patients on a regular basis.
