Arvind Kejriwal has decided to undergo trial by fire in people’s court: AAP

Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Sunday that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had decided to undergo an agni pariksha (trial by fire) in people’s court by deciding to quit the top post.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Sunday, Bharadwaj said, “Arvind Kejriwal said that although the Supreme Court has given him bail, he will undergo an agni pariksha in the Janta’s adalaat. He said that he would sit on the Chief Minister’s chair only after passing the agni pariksha.”
Earlier on Sunday, Kejriwal announced that he would resign as the Chief Minister of Delhi, just two days after being granted bail in the liquor policy case. He had said that a legislative party meeting is expected to be held within the next two days to decide on his replacement.
Kejriwal also demanded that assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held on February 25, should be held in November this year, along with the Maharasthra polls.
During the press conference, Bharadwaj further said that the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation, who are investigating the liquor policy case against Kejriwal, don’t have “the courage to begin trial” in the case.
“Maybe Kejriwal is the only Chief Minister in the world who has decided to resign and has asked people to vote for him only if he is innocent,” he said, adding that Kejriwal was taking the “biggest risk of his career”.
“In circumstances when the AAP was thrown out of its party office, its leaders were arrested by agencies and the party doesn’t have money, Kejriwal is asking the people to vote for him only if he is innocent,” he said.
He further claimed that “not even one accusation” was proved against the AAP chief in court.
Delhi Minister Atishi said that this date will “be lodged as a historic day in the country’s democracy”.
“Leaders of political parties are often viewed with suspicion of being involved in corruption, not just in India but globally,” she said.
“But even after getting bail from the Supreme Court in the case, Arvind Kejriwal wants to get a clean chit in the people’s court,” the minister added.
